Suzi Ford

Suzi Ford has a son who is affected by X-linked choroideremia. He has learned how to contend with day to day challenges in his life including career, marriage, and parenthood. Suzi’s maternal grandfather lost his sight. Her brother (with her in pic) and cousin are significantly affected. Their lives have been altered tremendously, but both have successful careers and try to live as “normally” as possible. Although they all have had struggles with the fear of waking to darkness, there is now much happening in the world of science. It is a much better picture being painted than decades ago when a diagnosis was given along with instruction to go home and prepare for blindness.

Human trials are underway all over the world, which inspires Suzi to help empower other moms with education, a support system, and a life of hope and not fear. Suzi served as the President of the Jacksonville Chapter of the Foundation Fighting Blindness from 2007-2013 and received the FFB Volunteer of the Year Award (Florida Region) in 2012. She shares Lisa’s goal to find cures for these blinding retinal degenerative diseases so that living with blindness is no longer a lingering fear for millions. Current trials are regarded with hope for Suzi’s affected loved ones and others whose precious sight is deteriorating during this fight to find cures in this lifetime. See her most recent video below:
